Will You Give Him Your Support? (Romans 13)

1Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. – Romans 13:1

I nary hear a Democrat cite this verse. It was always a Republican voice calling for support of a Republican president / platform. The question is, now that the tables are turned, will u still give a Democratic president your support? At any rate, it’s bad Biblical interpretation / exegesis.

Absolutely I will support Obama. I am excited for his presidency and to see what changes he will make. Though I don’t agree with his methods, I do agree with his goals. I want to see if his methods will actually accomplish our common goals and I’m willing to give him a fair shake to see if it will actually work.

His charismatic and energetic enough to get America to take action and break down barriers of race, sex and class. His election is a symbol of those barriers coming down. So I am excited for that reason.

I don’t believe universal healthcare is a good idea nor do I believe it will work. But if it does, that’d be awesome. So I’ll be cheering for him there. I don’t believe in taxing the rich to give to the middle class and poor, but if that jump starts the economy and makes life better for more people, that’d be awesome too.

It’s like I’m on Obama’s football team. He may be calling plays that I don’t think will work…. but I hope they do because we’re on the same team and i want to win the game.

I will support him. I supported George W. Bush because I couldn’t do anything about it. I didn’t agree with a thing he did or said, but I supported him. He was my president that I didn’t vote for.

Barack will get the same support.

The text you cite says we should give our submission, not our support. So he will have my respect, as I have respected all our presidents, but he will not have my support, as I have not supported many of our presidents. Respect is due to the office; support is more personal

I will support Obama, but I’m not sure that verse is 100% literal.
Jesus told the crippled man to get up and walk on Sabbath (sp?).
Jesus stood up to the religious authorities and told them to change their ways.
When the Anti-Christ comes… I will not submit myself to him.
